What Is An Unlocked Cell Phone?
Simply put, an unlocked cell phone is a GSM cell phone that is NOT locked by the manufacturer or network provider to be used in a specific country or or a specific carrier!  You are free to use the phone where you want, and with which ever carrier/network provider that is compatible with the Unlocked GSM Cell Phone.

A Locked Cell Phone is one that has a SIM lock.
A SIM lock, simlock, network lock or subsidy lock — not to be confused with PIN code — is a capability built-in to GSM phones by cellular phone manufacturers. Network providers use this capability to restrict the use of these phones to specific countries and network providers. Currently, phones can be locked to accept only SIM cards from one or more of the following:

• Countries (the phone will work in one country, but not another)
• Network/Service providers (e.g. AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile, Vodafone, etc.)
• SIM types (i.e. only specific SIM cards can be used with the phone).

You can purchase Unlocked mobile phones to work with any GSM provider, as long as it is compatible with your chosen network, but the phone may still display the original branding and may not support all of the features your new carrier (such as Friends & Families type features).

Also Note: That some Unlocked phones may have Network Carrier’s Logos imprinted on them.  Such as “AT&T” or “T-mobile”. This in no way inhibits you from being able to use them on any compatible network, or with any compatible SIM card, as these phones are unlocked.

I received this phone about 2 weeks ago and I’m totally happy I did. This phone is awesome. I travel quite a bit between the US and Europe and do not have a contract. I wanted to replace my Cingular/ AT&T 8125 PDA phone because it was to large and bulky. I had to do a little research for an English manual. I contacted Motorola for assistant in syncing my contacts and Outlook calander. After 3 calls to Motorola I was able to pull up all my contacts and calander events. If you’re looking for a reliable and good price on an unlocked PDA phone this is definitely the PDA phone for you. Just be patient when trying calling Motorola for assistance. Tiger Direct delivered the phone on time and as promised. All in all it was a great purchase and deal.

This phone is the BOMB! I’ve had this for nearly 3 months now and haven’t had any major problems with it. The only drawback of this phone (for me atleast) is the slow delay on the camera (but that can be fixed with custom firmwares), low internal memory and it can get pretty laggy when you open up a program in the phone. It’s like having a mini computer in the palm of your hands. Great colour screen (very bright) and awesome speakers.

This phone is beautiful. I Had a treo 700wx and wanted something slimmer but with the same customizability. This phone has more than surpassed my expectations. With the Quad band GSM and Edge Hacks the phone is absolutely perfect and well worth the price. If you are with rogers you will have to have the name display feature disabled as your phone will not ring when a call comes in, that is the only negative.

Came in just in time when my ipod died out. It comes with a 1gb card, but I also bought the 2gb card so I could store more songs. It’s a very handy phone and quite sturdy. I like the feature that it could pick up FM radio signals. Calendar functions are ok, only because I used to have a Treo, and the Treo calendar functions are the best. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate and pretty scratchproof. Camera does not have flash, but clear enough when there’s adequate light. Not the best battery life though. Have to recharge everyday even when you do not use it a lot. USB connection is great when you transfer songs or videos from your PC. This is a pretty sleek phone, and it does a lot for it’s size and price. I highly recommend this phone.

This phone is fantastic! I had encountered one problem with the phone not ringing when someone called but that was due to my carrier and their ”Name Display” feature. Once I had them disable it, the phone worked in every aspect! Great product.
