The GPS unit works very well, but I cut the value down, because of the out of date maps. I don’t think that they should sell you something, that as soon as you receive it and register it, that Magellan wants something like $80 to purchase updated and current maps. The ones that come on the unit are at least 18 months old. If you want the most current maps, don’t buy this unit, or else be prepared to shell out more money

I had been using VZ Navigator on my phone which was great and loaded with features, but was not always practical and you have to be on the Verizon network to use it. Got this and very, very nice, especially for the price! Quick acquisition, very easy to hear the voice prompts, easy to mount and setup. Wish the software and menus were a little easier to use, but not bad at all. Great buy!

Purchased the 4040 recently after buying a 4000 for my Mother-in-law (who loves it) several months ago. Navigation is very accurate & voice is loud and easy to understand. Spoken street names are just OK, but a plus for unfamiliar areas. Weekend trip from Ohio to Tennessee went very well as a first try with GPS. Magellan has a good record with GPS and I wasn’t disappointed. I got this baby for less than $150 after discount! I would definitely buy another. Thanks TigerDirect! Another great experience. This was my fifth purchase from TD and as usual, it arrived in two days with standard ground.

This is the fourth GPS device I have used myself not counting the three my girlfriend owns. This is the first automotive style unit however and it’s amazingly good. The touchscreen interface is responsive and well laid out. The interface is intuitive and the satellite acquisition is fast. My refurb unit came with the latest database. Outstanding value for the money.

Be warned that Magellan’s support through either their website or their phone service is horrible. The unit has 2006 maps you have to pay for updated maps even if you’ve purchased the unit in 2008. All I have to say is horrible, horrible, horrible. Hopefully your unit doesn’t have any defects because you’ll get an e-mail saying sorry for the delay in replying to your e-mail, but yadda yadda no help, dead link, thank you come again Indian.
