Complete HD Features: LG OPUS 42LBX LCD TV
Reviewed by: Flare Rico on Friday, September 12th, 2008

LG is proud to introduce its impressive entry into the HDTV arena, the LG OPUS 42LBX LCD Television. With a high-quality HDTV such as this, you’ll get to see clearer, sharper and more vibrant images.

Furthermore, the LG Opus LCD television uses the full HD 1080p configuration which means that it renders images at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 using progressive scan.

Features SRS TruSurround XT Audio Technology
By having HD 1080p, you’ll only see high resolution pictures, increased image detail, and impressively smooth action. Additionally, 1080p is the gold standard in HDTV technology today, offering 2 million pixels on screen.

In other words, it is twice the resolution of 720p and more than twice the resolution of standard 480i TVs. With the 1080p HDTV, you can experience the best that HDTV technology has to offer.

LG 42LBX 42" 120Hz HDTVThe new LG Opus Full HD 1080p LCD HDTVs feature TruMotion Drive, with 120Hz LCD panel technology for improved response time. Response time is a very important factor for content with fast-moving images such as games and action movies. TruColor technology is said to expand the color gamut to 92 percent of the NTSC spectrum for impressive picture quality. Meanwhile, the Super IPS panel with TruWide Viewing Angle technology maintains a uniform contrast ratio and minimizes color shifting and distortion, even at extreme viewing angles of up to 178 degrees.

Another amazing feature of the LG Opus LCV television is its 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast ratio. Dynamic Contrast is a notable development in the LCD technology. It automatically detects the image signal and intelligently controls the backlight brightness to make the black blacker in a dark scene, and make the white whiter in a bright environment. The LG LCD TV features SRS TruSurround XT audio technology as well. This technology delivers an enhanced, virtual surround sound listening experience when multi-channel audio input is played on a two-speaker output system.

The LG Opus LCD TV comes equipped with XD Engine. The XD Engine is responsible for this HDTV’s amazing picture quality; it is a unique LG Electronics picture enhancement technology that seeks to recreate life on the TV. With the XD Engine, pictures undergo advanced image processing to deliver brighter images that are accurate-looking, bright and pixel-perfect. It also enhances the Real Cinema feature of the HDTV to avoid distortion, while Pixel Works transforms an analog image with low resolution into a high resolution HD image.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the back portion consists of a connection panel that provides three HDMI compatible inputs, HD Component with matching stereo Audio Ins, one Composite (with Audio), one VGA (15 pin D-Sub) with a stereo Audio In mini-plug, and an S-Video. In addition, an SPDIF (optical) digital Audio Out is provided next to L/R Stereo Outs. However, on the back, left edge of the TV is a smaller connection panel containing a set of Composite Inputs and a USB port for inputting a USB flash drive full of JPEG images and MP3 files. This LCD television has LG Simplink support for convenient control of other LG Simplink products using the existing HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connection.

Television designers and manufacturers, in general, have been trying to unite sophisticated style with the latest LCD HDTV technology. The LG Opus 42LBX LCD HDTV combines the latest in high definition advancements. Users will definitely love the set with its 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution and 42” screen size.

This is my first LCD tv. I loved everything about it right out of the box. The sleek black frame catches your eye right away, and the minimalist design of the TV helps to keep distractions to a minimum when watching your favorite show. The menus are very straight forward and easy to navigate, but could offer a few more options in my opinion. There are plenty of inputs for the unit and are all labeled very cleanly and neatly. I loved that the TV came packaged with a ”cable management” strap to keep all of your cords behind the stand. While the strap is somewhat elementary, I will take any freebies I can get. My only complaint is that the TV did not have a DVI input which would have been great for my new vid card. The solution is an easy fix (buy a DVI to HDMI conversion cord) but it still would have been nice.

First off, delivery went off without a hitch..The TV was home in 3 days, set up out of the box in 20 minutes. The 120 hertz is a bonus, there is no blurring, no pixelating. This is a beautiful set with an awesome picture..my son connected the Playstation and it was spectacular to say the least. My mother in law is green with envy because her rear projection TV does not come near this one in terms of clarity and color, (and she paid double)..The LG quality comes through loud and clear as well..pick one up, you won’t regret it!!
