I like the others love it!! The finish keeps it from slipping out of your hand and does not show fingerprints. The only thing is the glare on the screen. But that is fixable with a non-glare gaurd. I would purchase another one of these if I were to need another laptop for a member of my family and would highly recommend it to anybody else.

REVIEW BY: Greg K Reviewed  Jun 08, 2008

Purchased this with the rebate ($524+tax) and at that price this is great value. I like the quality/build of the laptop and quite like the textured surface (prevents fingerprints). The laptop is slow at startup with Vista but it is what I expected, maybe it will be quicker if you remove the trialware. The biggest con is the screen reflection, it is almost like a mirror if you are in a room with a lot of natural light. I took the laptop into my yard (in the shade) and the reflection was terrible, almost non usable. In a typical lighted room it is bearable.

There is nothing I can say wrong about this thing, absolutely brilliant. Right out of the box, it screamed at me with it’s fast processor, smartly sized 15.4 viewable screen and super smart wireless technology. It came with a nicely added software package. The Veriface is pretty cool, I haven’t quite grasped its concept yet, but once I take the time to play around with it after enjoying the rest of this computer, it will be another great review coming! I’m at a loss for words with the performance and the attractive value. It was definitely worth the gamble to get this one. Lenovo is going to be the company to beat in the future! So long Dell, Lenovo is the new sheriff in town!!!

Pros: There really isn’t anything that I could possbaly gripe about when it comes to this laptop, it is just amazing. I love the keyboard, webcam, and the battery life. As of now I average around 3 and a half to 4 hours on a charge. Has good sound, great screen and the Veriface works extremely well, I was very pleased for all that I got for only $600 after rebate. Cons: There are only two things that I have found so far that I don’t like about this laptop. One is the very low max volume while watching a DVD in Windows Media Player, it’s odd because if I watch a movie using a different program it will go much louder. The only other thing that I don’t like is the amount of pressure that you have to use in order to get the media buttons above the keyboard to work, you really have to push down on them to make them work. Overall this is a great laptop that I would recomend to anyone. I have a HP dv9000 series laptop that costed twice and much as this and I like the y510 better!

This laptop has some drawbacks - 1. Notebook gets heated on left side of touchpad. Calldd customer service and sent my just one month old laptop to service depot. As per service depot, heating is normal for this laptop. 2. Speakers are goog but not great. I have my other Compaq Presario with just 2 stereo spakers that gives better performance than this laptop. 3.Battery life better than other laptops though. I am not very satisfied with laptop as there are several bettr laptops fro DELL & HP available within this price range and similar configuration.

For those who are contemplating buying this laptop I have two words: BUY IT! Lenovo Y series is going to go a looong way in consumer market laptop branch. It just needs a little marketing and ads push. Ideapads are actually capable of creating a cultural hive similar to the mac user culture… competitors are going to have sleepless nights figuring out how to beat this one! (especially the Y510 Core 2 Duo model). Untill they find a way around it I’m gonna enjoy this jewel :)

This is my first laptop ever. The features are impressive. The sound is great. Nice design. The media control ”buttons” are a definite plus. It’s kinda cool to have the Novo (one touch recovery) button as well. I had to use twice while trying to manage a dual-boot with Mandriva 2008. I would by this laptop again if I had too.

This is one sweet machine. Its looks rich, very sturdy and performs fast. The size is ideal. The keyboard is not too small nor is this too big or heavy to bring with you. Vista works smoothly and actually does make it a bit more fun and easy to get around the system. Ive looked around and have seen similar quality only in the $1000+ range so its definitely worth it. The camera gets a good image, but is a tad sluggish, but I guess alright for a webcam. Also, as expected, even from the start windows did have a couple of programs crash and ”not respond” on me, but thats all minor. Great laptop!

This is an awesome laptop! The only thing I don’t like about it is the high gloss screen. It is hard to read outside or in high light situations. That is my only complaint. I previously had a Dell that would get so hot it would almost burn you. This machine doesn’t even get warm! Veriface is a great feature as well.

I can honestly say, that I have pretty much owned almost every major laptop. Toshiba, fujitsu, acer,hp,gateway, dell etc. I was reluctant to buy a Lenovo, in fact very reluctant. I did give it a shot buying this model except with 1.8ghz centrino core duo. What a shock. The construction is the most solid one I have seen for years. It will not win in the lightweight category, but Its fit and finish is perfect. No sqeeks, lid is flush, and no flex or flimsy feel if picked up by one hand from the corner. The gloss design slim bezel loves fingerprints but it ships with a lint free cloth. The keyboard is incredible. Awsome feel and good layout for my big fingers. Mine came with 2 gigs, which I immediatly replaced with 2×2gigs for 4 gb…awsome. The 250 gb sata is excellent for all my multimedia and fast. The screen when shipped was a bit bright, but I changed that quickly. The touchpad almost dissapears into the case and the 2 buttons have a nice soft feel.

It really helps with the internet searches and page refreshes. The Veriface is an awesome product. I love Vista and the added 3454MB RAM really helps. I would definitely purchase another one again from TigerDirect.

To be honest, I literally LOVE this product! The Veriface software is amazing. You’re able to set and program whether or not you would like to run it when you are working on your laptop. The screen is beautiful. The structure of this laptop is VERY solid and sturdy compared to all the other high-end laptops out there like sony, toshiba, or dell whos chassis are flimsy and weak. It does not get hot at all and is seemlessly quiet. The battery led lights are a cool add on to see how much power you have left on it. The one touch mediapad is also a neat feature as well. You can mute, increase/decrease the sound, and change the equalizer with one touch. The 4.1 sound system is like no other sound system out there in other laptops. I have done my research on laptops for months now, and decided to buy this one, and I am not dissatisfied one bit! This is a must buy!!!

I am extremely happy with this laptop! As a previous reviewer mentioned, it comes with the Vista CDs, which is great. It runs like a dream and the picture is great. Picking up a wireless network is very easy, this is my first laptop in a long while and I was wondering how it would do on campus. The Veriface thing is pretty cool. Sometimes it is annoying (I wear glasses, which I have to remove every time I log in), but in public areas like a college classroom it can be pretty useful. Vista is hefty in terms of size and takes up a good portion of the 160 GB HDD, but I have a respectable amount of room left after installing Office Pro 2007. Lenovo includes a system restore and an easy button to regulate power levels. I really couldn’t be happier with this system, especially for the price. I was considering the Ideapad for $1000 at a retail outlet, good thing I found it here!

My wife complained that I kept watching over her while she used my Fujitsu Stylus (pen computer). So, after getting the ad for the special promo on the Y510, I checked it out and learned it was based from IBM technology. Whammo! This thing came chock-full of cool stuff, impressive design, and simple elegance. Yes, elegance. It is sleek and has all sorts of nifty & useful features. As for performance, I’ve seen absolutely nothing negative. Everything was setup right out of the box (i.e., ready to rock-and-roll once you finalized the Vista install). Mmy wife downloaded Skype and was talking to her mother with video without doing anything extra (which meant 3 clicks and we were connected to our wireless network!!). My wife is elated, and I am quite pleased with this purchase. This is most certainly the biggest bang-for-the-buck I’ve seen in a very long time. You will NOT be sorry in buying this computer.

If you don’t need a gaming laptop and have a limited budget like myself, then this is definitely the way to go. I have zero problems with Vista as I’ve been using it on a built PC for almost a year now and I am used to it. Veriface is cool, but I doubt I’ll use it. Lenovo did an excellent job. Clean and strond design, my double priced Vaio is so shaky. Amazing sound(4.1). Video and display excellent for DVD and pictures. I cannot even pick one single cons with this laptop. So if you are looking for a budget laptop please check this laptop before making a decision. Where do I put a Zero for Vista? You folks just have to offer an XP option for this. It is a good computer, but I am tired of going on a Great Quest for the simplest of changes that I’ve known how to do for 10 years. This whole thing is like playing the game of Myst just to get my home network running. All the MSpopups getting in my way just to do the simplest thing, trying to protect me from myself. Lenovo tells me that this machine was set up for Vista and that is why they don’t offer a downgrade to XP disk, as they do for some other machines. I don’t think so, since the Y510 only requires a sound driver for XP and about 10 drivers for Vista. Lenovo will furnish the sound drivers, just not the XP, which you’ll have to get yourself.

Most computer users can be hesitant in buying laptops because of the price. While some of the less hesitant would rather opt for an incredible bargain in the form of a refurbished notebook, others tend to lean toward the brand new. After all, brand new means all the components are like the buns straight from the oven: fresh and untouched. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop Computer is one great notebook that is capable and complete. It rallies the idea that great performance doesn’t have to come with a whopping price tag.

Looks-wise, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop Computer is vastly different from the other notebooks in the current market today. This points to one thing: this computer is designed to set itself apart. And set itself apart, it does. The 6.4-pound marvel features an angled hinge design, seamless glossy display, and LED-backlit media buttons. The matte black chassis is very durable and a surprisingly clever design move. The textured weave pattern on the lid prevents it from slipping from your bag. Although it does not have a latch to hold the lid closed, the hinge mechanism works well and firmly holds the lid in place. Granted, the whole notebook can be a bit thick and heavy. But with the features it holds, this laptop more than compensates for its bulky appearance.

An Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 processor powers this notebook. It clocks in at a good 1.73 GHz with FSB speeds going up to 533 MHz. This processor boasts Enhanced Intel Speedstep® Technology and Intel® EM64T so it can process 64-bit data fast. That means power to multitask and handle the latest multi-threaded applications seamlessy. With 2GB of DDR2 memory already installed, you won’t have a problem with the Windows® Vista™ Home Premium OS. The 15.4″ WXGA glossy screen on this capable mobile computer offers sharp contrast, excellent color, and very even backlighting. Enjoy 1280×800 pixel display with the excellent straight-on and horizontal viewing angles. Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 lets you avoid suffering from grainy images, ripples, and stuck pixels. To aid you further with your multimedia entertainment, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop Computer is already equipped with a DVD Recordable optical drive, Dolby Home Theater premium audio with four speakers and a sub-woofer, and a Multimedia Control Center featuring the convenient Shuttle Key for instant volume and equalizer control.

If you’re concerned with security, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop Computer has an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera that works with Lenovo’s unique VeriFace face recognition software. Now you can immediately access your notebook just by sitting in front of the screen. You can even lock the system once you’ve stepped away. A built-in power management application called “Energy Cut Tool” is located directly above the power button on the left side of the keyboard. This small button is labeled “Novo” and it allows you to choose between three different preset power options (high, medium, and low). This allows you to control your battery usage and even extend battery life when traveling. An ExpressCard/54 slot, three USB 2.0 ports, as well as other ports for devices like a modem or VGA help you with your work and play.

With all these features, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop Computer clearly proves that performance, entertainment, and security can be had at an average price. After all, blowing all your money on top quality equipment just to eventually get sub-par performance isn’t worth it.
