AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Processor ADO4600DOBOX
Frustrated by staring at the hourglass icon as soon as you try to work on more than three programs at once, especially when you’re working with digital media? Increase your performance with the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core processor. Work or play with multiple programs without any stalling or waiting. Dual-core technology is like having two processors, and two working together is better and faster than one working alone. Do more in less time with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor.
Next Generation Platform is Here
Socket AM2 from AMD is designed to enable next-generation platform innovations such as AMD Virtualization and high-performance, unbuffered DDR2 memory to the award-winning AMD64 architecture. This new technology is for prosumers and digital enthusiasts who are looking to run sophisticated, multiple processor-intense applications simultaneously. With socket AM2, AMD brings new capabilities like AMD Virtualization to both commercial and consumer users. Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. Therefore, IT managers can now gain the ability to develop and test software across multiple operating systems on a single computer to facilitate software migrations, isolate business and personal operating environments to increase security and reliability, and to initialize and manage client computers with less interruption to end users. AMD Virtualization helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
DDR2 Support Jump Starts Transfer Rates
DDR2 memory is the next generation of DDR memory that supports the open standards efforts of the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council (JEDEC), the governing body for integrated circuit specifications. It uses an advanced signaling scheme that can offer higher data transfer rates than DDR1 memory. The advanced signaling scheme mentioned above allows high transfer rates using traditional PC motherboard manufacturing techniques. DDR2 benefits to customers include lower voltage and higher frequency headroom than DDR1 memory. Socket AM2 processors from AMD will support DDR2 speeds of 400MHz, 533MHz, 667MHz and, for AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual-core and AMD Athlon™ 64 FX dual-core processors, 800MHz.
Like all the processors in the AMD Athlon 64 family, the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor is designed for people who want to stay at the forefront of technology and for those who depend on their PCs to keep them connected, informed, and entertained. Systems based on AMD Athlon 64 processors are able to deliver leading-edge performance for demanding productivity and entertainment software today and in the future.

I bought this processor in October 2006 (at the time the prices were in the $250-$260 range). I have NO regrets about purchasing it. Coming from an AMD K7 700 Mhz processor the difference in speed/multitasking capability was like day and night. My system runs 24/7 without a hitch (stock HSF/heatsink). This is on an MSI K9N Neo-F (v1.3) motherboard. To lower power consumption/temps I enabled CNQ…but with that motherboard/bios combo I noticed the system would lag after being on for 24 hrs. (lag when opening folders/applications) So..after trial and error..I found that the lag issue goes away if the FSB is increased to 204 (204×12=2448) (windows reads it as 2.45Ghz) MSI might have corrected this issue with later releases. Not looking to overclock this chip because my goal is lower power consumption and stability/reliability. Oh, and, 4GB of Kingston HyperX pc6400 (4-4-4-12) RAM helps a lot.

Love AMD! I put this in my first build, and it runs much faster that my Gateway 64 X2 2.2GHz system does. Included fan/heatsink is working great so far, but then again, I don’t overclock. Thanks TigerDirect for the great prices and fast shipping! I bought everything for a build and had it 4 business day’s later.

Used this in my first computer build last month. Was using a 6 yr old Gateway w/P4 1.86 GHZ. Really fast and really cool w/processor temps steady at 30 deg C. I have it in an Ultra Etorque case w/2 120 mm fans and the CPU fan duct. Great value too compared to comparable Intel offerings… I ordered all the parts on Friday night and Tuesday afternoon they both were here (2 separate shipments). Great shipping TD!!

Just got it today 5/6/08, the performance isn’t as great as expected. Its running about 15 degrees c hotter and might be slowing down my system. Since I installed my entire computer has been running more efficiently except my internet has gotten much slower than before. I’m not sure if this is from high heat or if its something else.
