I am THRILLED with this laptop! I got it on sale at $599.00 and then added 4 gig in memory (also purchased from TigerDirect) and was able to upgrade it easily. I did have to search the web and get a little help on removing the cover to the memory (the ”trick” is to ”peel” it back stating from the left side, and slowly free the tabs.) Once installed, it when perfectly to step through the setup. The wireless found my router (and all the neighbors… so it has quite a range!) Once on my net, everything worked well… I had no sound issues that others had reported in the reviews. And, one thing that blew me away was the quality of the webcam picture… WOW! I was not expecting that… even with the 2 megapixel resolution! One other thing I found searching on-line… some reported mouse issues with the touchpad… mine doesn’t have a problem, but here’s what one guy said in a forum: ”…go into tapping, mouse pad on touch pad, check the box tapping off when typing, works well…

I just returned this same one i had bought it from another company. the touch pad was messed up and it lagged constantly. i returned it and decided to wait and shop here when i find something on sale after i save the money to get what i really want. This is not bad though for someone on a budget with a little know how. Acer is also easy to upgrade unlike some laptops. it is so easy to do memory on this one it could be done by anyone with enough attention span to read directions on line. As said though with either a change to XP or a upgrade of memory it would be a nice system well had the touch pad not been borked anyway

To anyone who complained about this laptop, remember you get what you pay for. With that being said, pay the extra $80 and get 4Gb of RAM. Running 4gb with a 64bit OS…and figuratively speaking…I feel like I should strap it down to keep it from taking off. Can not comment on the DVD sound issue…I do not use it to watch DVDs but everything else sounds great.

I have had this laptop for a few days now. for $600 seems like a good deal. It does need more ram though! 1 gig is not enough for vista it seemed slow I bought a 2 gig stick and had to pull one of the 512mb out so I am runing 2.5gig and see a big differance. I will add more later. I also had the sound issue you could not hear a dvd movie from 3 foot away! but MP3’s played loud and sound good. But I fixed that problem in the settings, here is how; go to controll panel click on Acer HD Audio then click the speaker tab then the Sound effects tab and place a check in the box next to Loudness Equalization that fixes the sound problem! now it sounds loud and great!

I bought this computer for a friend to use in his business. Because of the programs he uses in his business I had to remove Vista(Yuk)and install XP Pro. Acer is one of the Mfg’s to have drivers for XP which made the conversion easy. With XP the computer is a rocket ship and works GREAT!!!! My Friend loves it and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a Quality computer.

This is a great laptop for $700.00. It comes with Vista on it, but I installed XP. If you like Vista purchase 4GB of RAM, it’s only $75.00. The sound works fine on mine. The notebook has HDD Password in BIOS, and mine came with Hitachi 160GB hard disk with Bulk Data Security option. People! This is a very, very, very, secure notebook. If you set HDD Password in BIOS, and you loose the notebook in airport or somewhere. Nobody, including the government will get at your data on the hard disk. The data is encrypted on the platters. Oh, this laptop allows for two Hard Drives installed. Nice! I got two 250GB Hitachi’s in mine. Enjoy.

I purchased this laptop and immediately upgraded the ram to 4gb for $75 I was going to return it due to the sound issue as well. The night before I was going to return it I was playing around in media center while watching a dvd I found settings to adjust I had not seen before I played around with them and suddenly the sound changed to loud and clear. So I cancelled my other PC order and I’m going to keep this one. BTW turn off the dolby on the sound card and then turn it on after you adjust the settings. Acer has been telling people the sound problem was a Vista issue and it seems they were right after all.

REVIEW BY: Kat Reviewed Apr 01, 2008 Sound is very poor….you can barely hear it turned wide open and I thought it was just mine. Now I see it’s an ongoing problem. I got this laptop as a gift, so I’m pretty much stuck with it but I’ll never buy another and would never reccommend it.

My laptop has actually worked just fine. I would definitely recommend it — great features for the price. The ONE THING I would strongly suggest: buy more RAM. This only comes with 1GB of RAM, and I’d suggest at least 2GB for any computer running Vista. (I bought it with 1GB and just paid for 4GB replacement.) Otherwise, I think this laptop is great!
